DALI DT6 & DT8 Constant Current LED Drivers

The Nucleo DALI constant current LED driver range is engineered for COB spotlights, recessed downlights and architectural track lights — fixtures that demand precise, stable current delivery to their LED modules. With adjustable output current, full DALI DT6 and DT8 protocol support, and high-frequency flicker-free PWM dimming down to 0%, these drivers bring professional building automation capability to any spotlight or downlight installation. BIS certified for the Indian market.

Constant Current vs Constant Voltage — Which Is Right?

Constant Voltage Driver

Outputs a fixed voltage (12V or 24V DC). Used with LED strips and profile systems that are designed to run at a specific voltage. The strip regulates its own current internally per segment.

Constant Current Driver

Outputs a fixed current (mA) — voltage varies with the load. Used with LED modules, COB chips, spotlights and downlights where the LED must be driven at an exact current to control brightness and protect the chip.

DT6 vs DT8 for Spotlights & Downlights

DALI DT6
Single Channel · Dimming Only

Controls brightness from 0–100% on a single output channel. One DALI address per driver. Use for single-white COB spotlights and downlights where only dimming (not colour temperature) is needed.

  • Single output channel
  • Smooth 0–100% DALI dimming
  • One DALI address per unit
  • Works with any DALI controller
  • Ideal for single-colour COB fixtures
DALI DT8
Multi-Channel · Tunable White / RGBW

Adds colour temperature control to DALI dimming. Drive warm white and cool white COB channels independently for tunable white (2700K–6500K) dimming, or RGBW for full colour. Requires a DT8-capable DALI controller.

  • 2-channel tunable white or 4-channel RGBW
  • CCT shift + brightness from single DALI bus
  • Ideal for hospitality, offices, retail, healthcare
  • Human Centric Lighting (HCL) ready
  • Requires DT8 DALI controller

Adjustable Output Current

A single Nucleo DALI CC driver can be configured for multiple output current settings, eliminating the need for separate driver SKUs for each fixture type. Typical selectable values:

350 mA
Low power
small COBs
500 mA
Compact
spotlights
700 mA
Standard
downlights
1050 mA
High-power
COB spots

Output current is set to match the LED module's rated operating current. Always check your fixture's LED module datasheet and select the matching current setting before installation.

⚡ Why Flicker-Free Matters

The Nucleo DALI CC driver uses high-frequency PWM dimming — operating well above the threshold where flicker becomes perceptible or physiologically harmful. Standard or low-quality drivers can produce flicker at low dim levels that causes eye strain, headaches and discomfort in occupied spaces. High-frequency PWM ensures smooth, comfortable dimming at every level from 1% to 100% — meeting the requirements of WELL Building Standard, HCL (Human Centric Lighting), and health-critical environments such as hospitals, schools and offices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a constant current LED driver?
A constant current driver maintains a fixed output current in milliamperes regardless of the LED's forward voltage. LEDs are current-sensitive — too much current degrades them, too little reduces brightness. Constant current drivers are used with LED modules, COB chips, spotlights and downlights, unlike constant voltage drivers which power LED strips.
What is the difference between DALI DT6 and DT8 for spotlights?
DT6 controls brightness only on a single channel — for standard white spotlights and downlights. DT8 adds colour temperature (CCT) control — independently driving warm and cool white channels to shift from 2700K to 6500K while also dimming. DT8 requires a DT8-capable DALI controller and is ideal for Human Centric Lighting (HCL) applications in offices, hotels and healthcare.
What does adjustable output current mean?
The driver's output current can be set to 350mA, 500mA, 700mA or 1050mA to match the rated current of the connected LED module. This allows one driver model to work with a range of fixtures. The current is selected via DIP switch or resistor before installation.
Why is flicker-free dimming important for downlights?
Flicker — even at frequencies invisible to the eye — causes eye strain, headaches and discomfort with prolonged exposure. High-frequency PWM dimming eliminates flicker at all dim levels, making the driver suitable for offices, hospitals, classrooms and retail where occupant comfort is critical and WELL or HCL standards may apply.
Which Nucleo spotlights and downlights work with this driver?
Compatible with Nucleo COB Downlight, COB Spotlight, Oreo COB Spot, Cool COB Spot, In-Out Pipe COB Spot, and the Novatilt 15W Cylinder Light — as well as any third-party LED module or COB fixture rated within the selectable current range. Always match the driver current setting to the fixture's LED module specification.
Is the driver BIS certified?
Yes. BIS certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards compulsory registration scheme for LED drivers in India — ensuring the product meets Indian safety and performance requirements.
Does Nucleo supply these drivers pan-India?
