PMMA End Glow Fiber Optic Cable with Black PVC Jacket | Nucleo
Protection for the Run, Not the Point

Bare PMMA fiber performs well indoors, but any route that involves conduit pulls, plaster embedding, foot traffic or outdoor exposure will damage an unprotected strand over time. The Nucleo NL-EOF series wraps the same optical-grade PMMA core in a black PVC jacket sized to each diameter — the strand still ends in a bright single point once stripped back at the fixture location, but the run itself is now abrasion, moisture and handling resistant.

Three Reasons to Specify Jacketed Fiber

The jacket doesn't change how the fiber glows — it changes where the cable can safely go.

Outdoor & Wet Routing

UV and moisture resistant jacket allows runs across terraces, pool decks and exterior soffits before terminating at a protected point.

Embed in Plaster or Screed

The jacket protects the core when fiber is cast into plaster ceilings, poured floors, or run through wall conduit.

Handles Repeated Pulling

Conduit pulls and tight bends during installation won't nick or fracture the core the way they would on bare fiber.

Built for Routes the Bare Series Can't Handle

Same optical core, same illuminator compatibility — the jacket is the only difference, and it's the difference that matters for demanding routes.

🛡️

Black PVC Protective Jacket

Shields the PMMA core from abrasion, UV degradation and moisture ingress along the entire cable run.

💧

Outdoor & Wet-Zone Rated Routing

Suitable for terraces, poolside paths and exterior soffits — the illuminator itself always stays in a dry, ventilated enclosure.

📏

Seven Core Diameters

0.5mm to 3mm core, each with a proportionally sized jacket, so point size and brightness match the bare series exactly.

🏗️

Plaster & Screed Embeddable

The jacket protects the strand when cast into wet plaster or floor screed, with only the stripped tip exposed at the surface.

🔧

Conduit-Pull Friendly

Withstands the friction and bending of being pulled through electrical conduit during first-fix, unlike unprotected fiber.

💡

Identical Point-Glow Output

Once the jacket is stripped at the termination point, light output matches the bare PMMA series at the same diameter and illuminator setting.

🎛️

Same Illuminator Compatibility

Pairs with the same Nucleo NLE light engine range as the bare series — no special driver required.

Where the Jacketed Series Is Specified

Anywhere the fiber run itself is exposed to the elements, foot traffic or building material — not just the finished light point.

🏊

Swimming Pool Points

Fiber routed to underwater or poolside points while the illuminator stays dry outside the pool structure.

🌳

Outdoor Landscape & Terrace Lighting

UV and moisture resistant jacket supports exterior runs across pergolas, terraces and garden paths.

🪜

Steps & Walkable Surfaces

Handles the abrasion of foot traffic and cleaning where bare fiber would wear through quickly.

🧱

Plaster-Embedded Ceilings

Cast directly into wet plaster or screed ceilings, with only the tip exposed once the surface is finished.

🚗

Facade & Soffit Accents

Routed through building facades and soffits where the cable is exposed to weather along its length.

🏢

Long Conduit Runs

Commercial installations where fiber is pulled through extended electrical conduit alongside other services.

🛥️

Marine & Wet-Deck Fitouts

Boats, spas and wet-deck areas where cabling must tolerate constant moisture exposure.

🎪

Temporary Outdoor Installations

Events and exhibition structures where the cable is repeatedly handled, coiled and redeployed.

Common Questions
Why choose the PVC-jacketed version over bare PMMA fiber?+
The black PVC jacket protects the PMMA core from abrasion, moisture and UV exposure. It is the correct choice for outdoor runs, buried sections, walkable surfaces like pool decks and steps, and any path where the cable will be pulled through conduit or handled repeatedly during installation.
Can NL-EOF cable be used underwater or in swimming pools?+
The PVC jacket is designed for wet and outdoor environments and is commonly used to route fiber to underwater or poolside points. The illuminator itself must always be housed outside the water in a dry, ventilated, IP-rated enclosure — only the passive fiber strand runs into the wet zone.
Why is the jacket black if the light needs to come out at the tip?+
The jacket is opaque by design — light only exits at the exposed, stripped tip of the fiber, exactly like the bare version. The black jacket contains and protects the strand along its run and simply gets stripped back at the point where the light point is required.
What diameters are available in the NL-EOF series?+
Seven core diameters are available — 0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm — each with a correspondingly sized outer jacket for mechanical protection. Roll lengths run from 6000m at the finest core down to 150m at the thickest.
Does the jacket reduce the brightness of the light point?+
No. The jacket only covers the run length of the cable — the emitting tip is stripped of jacket before installation, exposing the same PMMA core used in the bare series. Brightness at the point is determined by illuminator output and strand diameter, not by the jacket.
Can the jacketed cable be buried in plaster or screed?+
Yes, this is one of the main reasons to specify the jacketed version — the PVC layer protects the fiber core from abrasion and moisture while it is embedded in plaster, screed, or run through conduit inside a wall or floor buildup, with only the tip exposed at the finished surface.
