Specify a neon flex profile and the assumption is usually that the diffuser should vanish — a flat silicone face that turns an LED strip into one continuous, featureless bar of light. That assumption holds right up until the profile itself is meant to be seen: a bar edge, a stair nosing, a feature wall panel. In those situations, a plain glowing bar is a missed opportunity. The 16×16mm Honeycomb profile exists for exactly that moment — its silicone face is moulded into a repeating grid of hexagonal cells, so the same LED strip reads as structured, textured light rather than a single undifferentiated stripe.
It ships as an empty channel — the profile body and honeycomb diffuser only, with no LED strip fitted. You choose the strip: single colour, tunable white, RGB, or RGBWW, based on what the project needs, and insert it on site. Body size, Top Bending flexibility, IP65 weatherproofing, and installation method are unchanged from the standard 16×16mm profile — this is a change at the diffuser level only, and that one change is enough to shift how the light reads entirely.
What's Actually Different Is the Face, Not the Strip
The honeycomb effect has nothing to do with what LED strip is inside — it comes entirely from the moulded hexagonal geometry of the diffuser face. Light from the strip fills each hexagon cell, and the cell walls define its edges, so the profile presents as a patterned surface instead of a smooth glow. Swap in a different strip and the pattern stays the same; swap the diffuser back to flat and the same strip reads as a plain bar again. The texture lives in the silicone, not the electronics — which is exactly why any compatible strip can be paired with it.

Choosing Between Standard and Honeycomb
The deciding factor is simple: is the profile face going to be seen? If the neon flex sits deep inside a cove or bulkhead and only its reflected wash reaches the wall or ceiling, the flat standard diffuser is the more economical and equally effective choice — the honeycomb texture won't be visible from that angle. If the profile is surface-mounted, edge-mounted on a counter, or otherwise directly in the occupant's line of sight, the honeycomb face turns an otherwise plain fitting into a visible design feature — most effective at close-to-medium viewing distances where individual cells are clearly resolved.
