A Junction Every Room Has, Handled Differently
Every wall meets a floor somewhere, and that joint is almost always closed with a strip of timber, PVC, or MDF run along the base — a skirting board, fitted more out of habit than intention. The NLP-XF17 treats that joint as a design decision instead. It's a T-shaped aluminium channel, plastered into the wall substrate before the finish coat goes on, so the completed wall runs straight down to the floor with nothing standing proud of it — just a slim recess exactly where the board would have gone.
At 13.7mm x 42mm and 157 grams per metre, the section is built to a noticeably heavier gauge than a profile designed for ceiling height, because this particular line takes contact that a ceiling line never will — feet, mop heads, vacuum cleaners, chair legs, every day the room is in use. Left as a bare channel with no diffuser, an LED strip fitted inside produces a sharp, well-defined edge of light along the floor rather than a soft wash.
A Wall That Reads as One Continuous Plane
A skirting board tells the eye exactly where a wall ends and a floor begins — it's a visible break, a change of material and plane. Take that board away and cut a recessed line in its place, and the read flips: the wall now appears as a single unbroken surface that lifts clear of the floor instead of resting on it. Light the LED strip inside the channel and the effect becomes literal — a thin edge of illumination runs beneath the wall, grazing the floor finish in front of it. It's the floor-level equivalent of a floating ceiling, and no surface-applied board, of any material, can produce it.
Key Features
A Real Skirting Replacement
Sits inside the wall rather than on top of it — the finished run has no raised strip anywhere along its length.
T-Shaped Plaster-In Flange
The wide flange keys into the wall finish, holding the channel dead flush without visible screws or clips.
Bare Channel, Defined Edge
No diffuser fitted, so a strip inside grazes the floor as a crisp line of light instead of a diffused glow.
Built for Floor-Level Contact
At 157g/m, it's specified substantially heavier than a ceiling-level shadow gap section for daily durability.
Continuous Around Corners
Mitres cleanly at internal and external corners so the recessed line runs unbroken around a full room.
Cuts to Exact Room Lengths
Standard aluminium mitre-saw cutting on site for precise wall runs and tight corner joints.
In Before the Flooring, Wired After the Finish
The channel is fixed to the wall substrate at floor level before plastering, screeding, or boarding is completed, its flange embedded so the face sits flush once the wall is painted or plastered over. Flooring is then laid straight up to the base of the profile, closing the joint. The LED strip goes in last — fitted into the channel only once all finishing and flooring work is done, so it's never exposed to construction dust, overspray, or foot traffic during the build.
Where the NLP-XF17 Runs
Full Room Perimeter
Around the entire base of a room in place of a conventional skirting board — one unbroken line, corner to corner.
Feature & Media Wall Base
Under a feature or media wall, reinforcing the read of the wall as a single plane down to the floor.
Below Fitted Cabinetry
Along the base of wardrobes and built-in joinery, so units appear visually lifted off the floor.
Corridors & Staircases
Long continuous runs that also work as a low-level guide line, following a staircase rake where needed.
Applications
Residential Interiors
Living rooms and bedrooms finished with no visible skirting strip anywhere
Hotel Corridors
Continuous guest-floor runs where the line doubles as ambient wayfinding
Retail & Showrooms
Plinths and feature walls with a grazing floor edge instead of a base trim
Commercial Offices
Reception and boardroom walls kept reading as one continuous plane to the floor
Restaurants & Bars
Perimeter floor lines that add low-level ambience without another fixture
Staircase Bases
A continuous skirting-level line that tracks the rake of a stair wall
Wardrobe & Joinery
Under fitted cabinetry, visually lifting units off the floor with a light edge
Galleries & Museums
Display walls where a raised skirting board would interrupt a clean composition
