PVC sheathed end glow fiber optic cable is a single-strand Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) plastic optical fiber enclosed in a treated black PVC outer jacket. The fiber transmits light from a remote LED illuminator to the far end — and emits that light exclusively from the fiber tip as a bright, sharp point. No electricity travels through the cable itself. No heat is generated at the emission point.
The fiber tip becomes the light source. Everything else stays hidden and safe. The LED illuminator sits in a protected equipment location — a ceiling void, plant room, or cabinet. The cable runs through walls, floors, and submerged surfaces with zero electrical hazard. How End Glow Fiber Optic Cable Works
A beautifully simple optical system — one remote light engine, dozens or hundreds of glowing star points across any surface.
Remote LED light engine (10W–100W) converts mains supply into high-intensity focused light. Mounted safely in ceiling void, cabinet, or pool plant room — completely out of sight and out of the wet zone. Only the optical fiber cable runs from this point.
Multiple PMMA fiber cables bundle at one end and connect to the illuminator output port. All fibers receive light simultaneously. The PVC sheath is peeled back 30–40mm at the bundle end so naked fibers enter the illuminator port cleanly.
Light travels down the PMMA core by total internal reflection — no light escapes along the cable length. The treated black PVC jacket blocks ambient light from entering the fiber and protects the PMMA core from moisture, mechanical damage, and UV. The cable can run through walls, floors, tile screed, and submerged surfaces.
Light exits exclusively at the far fiber tip — one sharp, brilliant point. Intensity depends on core diameter (larger = brighter), cable length (longer = slightly dimmer), and illuminator power. Multiple tips across a pool floor or ceiling create the constellation or starfield effect.
A rotating wheel inside the illuminator randomly blocks individual fibers — creating natural twinkling where different stars brighten and dim asynchronously. Installation Guide
End glow fiber optic cable installations follow a consistent method across all applications — pool floors, sauna ceilings, deck surfaces, and feature floors.
Plan the star pattern and calculate fiber count. Mark every star point position on the surface. Each position requires one fiber strand. Count total fibers — this determines bundle count and illuminator power. As a guide: 1.0mm fibers, 20W illuminator handles approximately 100–150 fiber ends per bundle.
Mount the LED illuminator in a protected location. The illuminator must be accessible for maintenance and positioned within the fiber bundle cable length of the surface. For pool installations, the plant room is standard. For sauna and ceiling installations, the ceiling void above is used. The illuminator requires 220–240V AC and adequate ventilation.
Route fiber cables from illuminator to each star point. The PVC sheath allows pulling through conduit, floor screed, tile adhesive, and wall cavities. For pool floors, fibers are routed through 6–10mm holes drilled through the pool shell before tile installation — one hole per star point or per fiber bundle group.
Bundle and terminate fibers at the illuminator end. Group all fibers from one illuminator. Peel back the PVC sheath 30–40mm on each strand. Align bare fiber ends flush, bind tightly with shrink tubing, and polish the bundle face flat. The polished face inserts into the illuminator input port.
Trim and finish fiber tips at the surface. At each star point, cut the fiber flush with the surface using a sharp fiber cutter — not scissors or side cutters, which crush rather than cut cleanly. A clean perpendicular cut produces the sharpest, brightest star point. For pool and wet area applications, seal the tile hole with pool-grade epoxy grout.
Power on and commission. Connect illuminator to mains. All fiber tips activate immediately. Check for dark fibers (broken or improperly bundled strands) and inspect tip brightness uniformity. Set twinkle wheel speed and colour wheel to desired effect. For pool installations, run 24 hours before water is introduced.
Handling & Care: PMMA optical fiber is sensitive to sharp impact and aggressive bending. Do not crush, pull aggressively, squeeze, press, drag, or step on the cable during storage or installation. The minimum bend radius must be observed for each SKU — bending tighter creates internal microfractures that permanently reduce light transmission. Handle as you would a flexible glass rod.
