Fiber Optic Light Mesh India | 105 Strand Side Glow PMMA | Drape, Suspend, Sculpt | Nucleo
A Woven Panel of Light — Not a Fitting

Fiber optic mesh is fundamentally different from any other form of architectural lighting. It is not a fixture, not a strip, not a panel with point sources inside it. It is a fabric — woven from PMMA optical fiber strands — where the material itself is the light source. When connected to an illuminator, every fiber in the weave glows simultaneously along its full length. The surface becomes luminous. The form it takes is entirely determined by how you install it.

Side glow fiber is what makes the mesh work the way it does. Standard end glow fiber only emits at the cut tip — if used in a woven mesh, only the loose ends of the fibers would glow, leaving the weave body dark. Side glow fiber emits continuously along its full length, turning every strand in the mesh into a glowing line. The weave of 105 side glow strands creates a surface where every crossing point of warp and weft is illuminated — a genuinely luminous fabric rather than a panel with light behind it.

From Engine to Glowing Surface in Three Steps
BUNDLE → ENGINE
1

Fiber Strands Woven into a Grid

105 × 0.75mm PMMA side glow fibers are woven into a mesh — vertical warp fibers interlaced with horizontal cross threads. Each crossing point becomes a potential emission node where two glowing fibers meet.

2

Ends Gathered into a Single Bundle

All fiber strand ends from one edge of the mesh are gathered, aligned and terminated in a bundled ferrule — a collar that holds the fibers together for insertion into the engine's input port.

3

Engine Powers the Entire Surface

The ferrule bundle inserts into the illuminator port. Light distributes through every fiber simultaneously. The entire mesh surface — every vertical strand, every crossing point — glows uniformly in the selected colour.

4

Shape It Any Way You Need

Because the mesh carries no electricity, it can be draped, folded, suspended or formed into 3D shapes freely. Only the engine-to-bundle connection point has any wiring constraint.

No Electricity in the Mesh Itself

The only electrical connection in a fiber optic mesh installation is at the illuminator engine. The mesh fabric carries no current and cannot cause electric shock under any circumstance — even in the event of mesh damage, wet conditions, or direct human contact. This makes fiber optic mesh the only genuinely non-electrical luminous surface available for lighting design.

This characteristic is why fiber optic mesh is used in sensory rooms, hydrotherapy pools, children's playspaces, and installations where conventional electrical lighting would be impractical or unsafe.

Compatible Nucleo Illuminators

The mesh connects to any Nucleo NLE illuminator. Engine choice determines brightness, colour capability and any dynamic effects. Engines are sold separately.

Why Fiber Optic Mesh Works Where Other Lighting Cannot
🧵

Fully Flexible — Drape and Sculpt Freely

The mesh bends, folds and drapes like fabric. It can be suspended as a hanging canopy, formed into organic cloud sculptures, wrapped around architectural elements, or stretched across curved ceiling frames — none of which is possible with rigid LED panels or strip-based systems.

🎨

The Entire Surface Is the Light Source

There are no point sources, no hotspots, no dark zones between LEDs. Every side glow fiber in the weave emits along its full length — the surface is uniformly luminous across every square centimetre of the panel.

Non-Electrical at the Point of Contact

The mesh carries no electricity. No current flows through the fibers — only light. This eliminates electrical hazard at the surface completely, making the mesh safe to touch, install near water, and use in environments where conventional wiring cannot safely go.

🌈

Full RGBW Colour Across the Surface

PMMA fiber accurately transmits the full visible spectrum. Connect an RGBW engine and the entire mesh shifts simultaneously through 16 million colour combinations — or programme scenes via DMX for integration with a lighting control system.

📐

Custom Sizes on Request

Standard panel sizes are available from stock. For project-specific dimensions — room-width canopies, unusual ceiling shapes, multi-panel installations — Nucleo supplies custom cut-to-size mesh to specification.

🔧

One Engine — One Connection Point

The entire mesh is driven from a single engine connection. There are no intermediate drivers, no power injection points and no wiring within the mesh body — the single ferrule bundle is the only connection required.

Five Steps to a Glowing Mesh Installation
01

Plan the Frame or Suspension

Decide whether the mesh hangs freely, stretches across a ceiling grid, or drapes over a structural form. Mark fixing points at the top edge of the mesh.

02

Mount the Illuminator

Fix the NLE engine at a point accessible for power connection and within 1–3m of the mesh bundle end. Ensure ventilation around the engine body.

03

Connect the Bundle

Insert the pre-assembled ferrule bundle into the engine's input port. Tighten the locking collar finger-tight. No tools required — the connection is designed for quick hand assembly.

04

Shape and Dress the Mesh

With engine off, hang, drape or form the mesh into position. PMMA fibers should not be bent tighter than 50mm radius. Secure at fixing points with stainless fixings.

05

Power On and Programme

Connect the engine to power and select your colour mode. Make final adjustments to drape and position. The mesh requires no further maintenance after installation is complete.

Common Questions
What is fiber optic light mesh and how does it work?+
Fiber optic light mesh is a woven panel made from PMMA side glow fiber strands. Side glow fiber emits light along its full length — not just at the tip. When the bundled fiber ends are connected to a Nucleo illuminator engine, every strand in the mesh glows simultaneously along its entire length, turning the whole panel surface into a luminous, colour-changing fabric. The mesh itself carries no electricity — only light is transmitted through the fibers.
What fiber specifications does the Nucleo Fiber Optic Mesh use?+
The Nucleo Fiber Optic Mesh uses 105 strands of 0.75mm diameter PMMA side glow fiber per mesh unit. Side glow fiber emits light continuously along its full length — not just at the tip — which is what creates the characteristic full-surface, even glow across the entire mesh panel when connected to an illuminator.
What illuminator engine is needed and is it included with the mesh?+
The illuminator engine is sold separately. The mesh is compatible with the full Nucleo NLE engine range — NLE-18 (18W, 20mm port), NLE-36 Dual Port (drive two panels from one engine), NLE-45 (45W, 30mm port, for larger panels), NLE-5S (twinkling and shooting star effect), and NLE-90 (90W, for large-format and outdoor use). Contact Nucleo with your mesh panel dimensions and desired colour effect for an engine recommendation.
Can the fiber optic mesh be cut to custom dimensions for a project?+
Yes. Standard panel sizes are available from stock. For project-specific dimensions — wide room canopies, non-rectangular shapes, multi-panel installations — Nucleo supplies custom cut-to-size mesh on request. Share your project dimensions with Nucleo and we will advise on sizing and supply accordingly.
Can the mesh be shaped into 3D sculptures and freeform suspended installations?+
Yes. The PMMA fiber mesh is fully flexible and can be formed into organic 3D shapes — hanging clouds, cascading canopies, spiral or wave forms, or any freeform sculpture. The minimum bending radius for PMMA fiber is approximately 50mm — bending tighter causes micro-fracture and light loss. Within that limit, the mesh can take virtually any form and will hold the shape it is given when fixed at multiple points.
Is the fiber optic mesh safe near water, in children's rooms, and in sensory spaces?+
Yes. No electricity passes through the mesh fabric itself — only light is transmitted via the PMMA fibers. The mesh surface is cool to the touch, produces no heat and no UV. This makes it safe to install near water features, in children's sensory rooms, occupational therapy spaces, hydrotherapy pools, and any environment where electrical or heat hazards from conventional lighting would be a concern. The only electrical connections are at the illuminator engine, which is mounted separately from the mesh.
How is the mesh connected to the illuminator and how difficult is the installation?+
The fiber strands on one edge of the mesh are gathered and pre-terminated in a ferrule bundle — a collar assembly that inserts directly into the illuminator's input port and is secured with a locking collar finger-tight. No tools, adhesives, or specialist skills are required for the connection itself. The main installation effort is in positioning and securing the mesh in its desired form and routing the bundle to the engine location.
What colour effects are available and how are they controlled?+
Colour and effect are entirely determined by the illuminator engine choice — the mesh accurately transmits whatever the engine outputs. An RGBW engine provides 16 million colour combinations including any white, any saturated colour, and any blend, controlled by RF remote. A CCT engine allows warm-to-cool tunable white. A DMX engine enables scene programming and integration with a lighting control desk or home automation system. The NLE-5S Shooting Star engine adds a motorised twinkling and chaser effect that creates a dynamic, shifting shimmer through the mesh surface.
